Abi qualified as a physiotherapist in 1980, subsequently spending several years in a variety of mainstream NHS positions. She became a senior practitioner with a specialty in spinal manipulation and musculoskeletal disorders. Abi then left the NHS to develop a private physiotherapy practice in the North of England, working alongside a Cranial Osteopath, Acupuncturist and Counsellor. She became fascinated by their subtle ways of working with the body and mind and was inspired to train as a Craniosacral Therapist at the Karuna Institute, successfully qualifying in 1993. To extend her understanding of the subtle systems of the body Abi then trained as a Bowen Practitioner in 2003. After several years in her private practice and having always had a sense of adventure she went travelling, spending extended vacations in India, Australia, Sweden and the USA. These trips were interspersed with a variety of locum physiotherapy positions throughout England, Scotland and the Western Isles. In 2005 Abi was invited to join a NHS funded pilot scheme in Argyll, Scotland. This ‘Condition Management’ project focused on assisting clients on long term Incapacity Benefit to make a successful transition back to work, using self-help and Cognitive Behavioral approaches in addition to complementary therapies. Over her long career as a physiotherapist Abi has developed a particular interest in working with pain management, in addition to shock and trauma. Additionally, as a Craniosacral Therapist she has also found great reward working with babies and children, and treating children with autism. In addition to HPC and CSP membership Abi is a member of the Craniosacral Therapy Association. Abi joined the Grosvenor Physiotherapy Clinic in 2011.
